Something intersting

Happy Women’s day

In the recent parliamentary speech by Dr Vivian Balakrisnan (Minister for community development, Singapore), mentioned that most domestic problems are caused by irresponsible men. When I first heard it I didn’t agree, and after much thought I agree with him. He said before marriage he opened a joint bank account with his wife and his pay would go into that account and he allowed his wife to control his spending. He treated that as a leach. This brought about the responsibility that the money is also his wife’s. It might sound un-manly for some but I think it’s a good idea. I think I would follow it.

On this day I would also like to make a vow with my reader’s as witness that I am not going to follow one Hindu custom that the wife touches the husband’s feet to get blessing from her husband. Getting blessing form elders by touching their feet is fine but between husband and wife I want equality and I feel that my wife falling to my feet is unfair.

People who achieve their dreams

Positive thinking and Wishful thinking

I am sure many of you would have read and heard motivation speeches. And it is the will power of a man can allow us to achieve even the impossible. The Adidas slogan goes “Impossible is nothing!”

That advice has been very useful in my life and I pretty much belief it until I heard about the fine line between positive thinking and wishful thinking. As much as we have to dream of achieving great dreams we should keep them realistic.

If the dream was within reach it is Positive thinking

If it was an unrealistic dream then it is wishful thinking.

Setting goals in life is very important. “If you fail to plan you plan to fail!” everyone needs an aim in life. Little goals have to be set to be achieved. Then you see the progress and the goal seems possible to be achieved. Wishing for success overnight is just plain wishful thinking.

Formula of sucess

If A is a success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut.

Sucess in life = x + y + z

x = Work
y = Play
z = keeping your mouth shut

i saw this quote somewhere and decided to share it.The secret of success is hardwork. All work and no play made jack a very dull boy as the saying goes a little play and fun will keep life more interesting and giving a right mix of happiness.

the last element is "Z". Many has screwed up because of their mouth. Being humble and down to earth allows room for improvement. if someone were to keep on bull shitting about themselves, no one will take the seriously and their hardwork will go to waste.

Don’t try too hard.

This was the advice given to me by my colleague when I was working as an assistant network engineer. The colleague was the senior engineer and I was a fresh graduate from my polytechnic.

My boss had just signed the contract for a new IT project. I field that project was quite impossible for us to complete in the given time due to the lack of manpower that we had. Everyone in the company knew that it was a problem, but the boss didn’t see it as one. My task was to take over one element myself. I put in extra hours and overnight to get the project done. I was a newbie in the field and I was surprised that my colleagues didn’t show even a fraction of the handwork I’d put in.

We managed to complete the project on time. The senior engineer gave me a pat on the back and told me that I did well and played a huge part in the success of the project but then he told me. Sometimes when you think the project is going to fail, you should let it fail, to give the boss the sign that it cannot be done. Since the boss knows that the team could do it, he going to stress test us again. My colleagues had deliberately slackened off to send the message to the boss that we need more engineers.

In school we have to push ourselves to our max to achieve our best but doing our best in the office does not necessarily bring us any good.

And well I got promoted to a network engineer. I quit my job to serve my National service as a specialist in the Singapore air force. This advice was useful during my term in the air force.
